Do many of you continue to take psyllium powder after achieving remission? I've reached the closest thing to remission after flaring for about
a year and a half. I've heard on here that the psyllium can work both ways either firming or softening the stool. My stool have been solid for the most part, but it's like clockwork that I hit the can very shortly after I wake up. Just wondering if I should taper off the psyllium.

I stopped taking it when my stools became "perfect" and I was talked into taking it regularly again by people on this board. It keeps the digestive system working properly and is just beneficial to the colon. Also, recommended while you're in remission or not: a probiotic.

Thanks Journey, I've taken many probiotics over the last several years. The only thing they seemed to do for me was to separate me from my wallet....

I have taken my two doses of psyllium day in and day out since 1986......a little more when I'm flaring, but still the two doses while in remission. I am more comfortable when I take it, and one thing I hate about
my annual colonoscopy is that I have to stop taking it for 5 days preceding!

I take psyllium capsules daily..6 with the two main meals I have every day. so...12 caps daily...525mg x12 = 6300mg daily.
I would never stop using them. Regarding probiotics...everyone should be using them because we ingest all sorts of bugaboos on a daily basis.

Durango Kid, I understand how you feel about
the proof that probiotics are doing anything. The jury is still out for me, but I'm still taking them and spending too much.

You can continue to take it in remission. I used to take it daily but stopped because I was on a tight budget. Now that I have a decent job, I can buy it again! lol.

Thanks everyone! I will continue the psyllium and look into getting back on a probiotic regime.
