And had the Rhogam vaccine? It is just out of curiosity, because someone mentioned this in a different post. I have noticed from many posts that several women seem to have been dx with proctitis or UC during or immediately after pregnancy. I am one of those myself, and I had the Rhogam twice. I know this vaccine affects the immune system and I was wondering if, for some of us, it could have triggered our UC. We are all different when it comes to causes and treatments for UC, but maybe for some this could have been the initial culprit.
Thanks, best to all,
RT

I don't have any kids either and I'm B+. Personally I don't think the vaccine has anything to do with it. I think its the constant changes of hormones and such during pregnancy.

I'm RH negative, had the Rhogam but I don't think it contributed to triggering my Uc. Genetics, food poisoning and over usage of antibiotics triggered it for me I believe.

I am A+ blood type so no vaccine for me but I was diagnosed shortly after pregnancy so I believe it was one of my triggers.

I am 0- blood type, and had the rohgam shot with my son 7.5 years ago. My symptoms didn't surface until about
2 years ago, so I'm not sure if that was a contributing factor.

I remember someone asking about
blood type before. We all seem to have different blood types. Mine is B+. My mom's is AB-. I remember this well, because my mom had to have a blood transfusion after delivering me due to my blood being positive and her's being negative. She got Hepatitis C from the transfusion.

I am O- and have had the the Rhogam shot three times but my Colitis came years before I had my children. My colitis started after a trip to Mexico, severe diahrea that didn't go away and a stupid doctor that didn't test me for anything and it continued for years until I started bleeding then I was finally sent for tests.

I'm A+, so obviously did not have a Rhogam shot. My first flare did start shortly after childbirth (sometimes I wonder if I was very mildly flaring throughout pregnancy) so I am sure that pregnancy/postpartum hormones played a role.

It is believed that one has to be genetically predisposed to UC, meaning it's in your genes. And then all you need is a trigger to initially set the disease off. So, yes, it's possible that this shot triggered your UC. Others have indicated a bout with food borne illness, the use of antibiotics, cessation of smoking, and the use of Accutane. All of these could be triggers but they wouldn't cause your UC unless you were wired to get it.

I am O- but didn't have the rhogram because my husband is also negative blood type, so we knew the kids would be negative too.

I am A- and had the shot twice. Symptoms were there before I had kids but were definitely worse after the birth of my son.

I'm A-. Had the Rhogam shot twice. But, I had UC long before I got the shots. I don't think there is a correlation.

I am another A- who had the shot 3 times. I was diagnosed about
a year after my third child was born. Looking back though, I think I have been suffering with IBD since I was 14. Interesting though.

As a funny side note, out of curiosity I looked up the RH factor. There are some really wild theories out there! For instance, Rh - is considered blood of the Gods possibly even from an alien race. Many sites even state that people with Rh - have admitted to being abducted by aliens! lol I've always compared my flares and bm's as it feels like an alien is trying to rip it's way out of my body.......now I know why! *rolls eyes* ;)
