Just got back from my f/u with GI. Questions...

Hey Smylee. I like Rowasa and Canasa both. I prefer Rowasa as it covers all the way up to the end of your descending colon, but I have used both. Lots of folks don't like statistics because this disease is so unpredictable, but I do. One study I have seen a around lot shows that 53% do not have disease progression past their original diagnosis after a long term followup. But, people who stay on their meds diligently have a proven better chance at not progressing in their disease course. So, more people in the 47% category stopped taking their meds compared to those in the 53% category!

Rowasa is very effective for mild to moderate UC; it's also been proven to be just as if not slightly more effective than cortidteriod enemas with fewer potential side effects. The main ingredient in rowasa and canada is the sMe but if you use the enema correctly it reaches higher up than the canasa supp.

Yeah, Salofalk retention enemas in conjunction with Asacol have worked for me for 22 years.

It's a commitment to learn how to use them effectively...which many of us can help you with the tapering/maintenance after your flare has quiesced.

It means I don't understand what f/u and UP mean, and I don't feel like looking it up.

Unpack "please unpack ur LTTRS" and you will get "please unpack your letters."

I thought perhaps f/u meant the swear word - "F" you, but that wouldn't make sense, not unless the original poster really meant f/ing appointment, not f/u appointment.

2B or not 2B?

I was not med compliant when I was first diagnosed. I had UP in the beginning but it spread. I feel like slapping myself. But I don't know if it would've done that in the first place. It's very unpredictable. Good luck with the Rowasa, it is a good med and it can be used long term.

LOL - F/U means follow up for the Ulcerative Proctitis appointment. I have a teen daughter who texts like crazy so I am up with the terms. In fact, if I try to call her she doesn't answer her phone but if I text her, I get an instant response......go figure!

I taught my kids well. They know not to use text words when they aren't texting ;)

It's annoying.

I know many business people who will send emails with tons of abbreviations. I knew a woman whose emails were filled with abbreviations. She had no idea how irritating her emails were. Once she asked one of my co-workers what an abbreviation meant, because she wanted to use it in one of her emails. He told her that if she didn't know herself, then maybe she shouldn't use it.

The reason abbreviations can be irritating is that people in different fields use different ones. For example, it's fine to write IBD on this forum. In fact, many might even prefer it. Most of us know what IBD means, because we have it. However, it's better to let the other person know what we mean by IBD if we are talking to someone working for IBD (Investors Business Daily).

Some people think they sound smart if they use abbreviations. Others think they sound smart if they use "big" words. I don't buy into it. I come from a high-tech family. My mom (who is 73) has a doctorate degree in computer networks. (I would tell you what she does for a living but her job is too high profile.) My sister has been a programmer since the mid 70s. My boyfriend is an embedded systems engineer. My older daughter is a web developer like me. My younger daughter is studying 3D animation. We aren't texters. To us using text-speak in normal everyday conversations is like saying "goes" for "says." It does not sound educated.

I was merely letting the original poster know. After all, the woman who worked in my office had absolutely no idea that her emails were irritating everyone because no one told her.

It's kind of like if you have a piece of spinach on your teeth and no one told you. If I told you that I was distracted because you had a piece of spinach on your teeth, then I wouldn't expect you to say, "Subdued, if you don't like how I look, then don't look."

And yet if I give my opinion and you don't like it, then that is exactly what you say. You tell me not to look.

And then the title of the post sounded very interesting. She just got back after f*king with her GI. Either that or she f*ked up with her GI. I was curious about which it was.
