sulfasalazine vs. mesalamine +

Was anyone more more successful with sulfa vs. mesalamine? Thanks.

August 2010 I had 20 red ones per day. 100mg prednisone did nothing. Before entering the hospital my doc allowed me to change from all the asacol variations to Sulfasalazine and that PLUS Librax and the bleeding stopped as soon as I took the meds. It has been 6 months now. I had other health troubles but it got me out of a flare.

aguywithuc, wow. What is Librax? Are you taking it for UC?

Sulfasalazine helps me way more than any mesalamines I ever took. Pentasa, Asacol, Colozal, took them all in the max dosages and never really helped. My dad and I both take Sulfa, if I start bleeding I go up to 8 a day, 2 4 x a day and I can usually get the bleeding stopped within a week.

Sulfasalazine worked the best for me but I had reactions after a month. It's negative is that many people can't tolerate it especially long term. about 70% can.
