Hello internet, I'm new, so forgive me if this is long.
I've had UC for nine years now. I was wondering if anyone has had the same trouble with secondary infections that I have. It seems like every time I get my UC under control, I get something like bronchitis, pneumonia, or most recently MRSA (four times so far :( ) Then (especially with the MRSA) I have to stop taking my biologic (Humira) and then my UC goes back to bad. This is so frustrating. I just feel like I can't win. I'm meeting with my GI next week to try and figure something out. Has anyone ever dealt with this?
With my meds I take Pentasa 500mg x2 3 times a day, an iron supplement, and Humira every other week. I used to be on Remicade, but it has become too expensive for me. Humira gave me patient assistance and my co pay is only $5/ month. :) I cannot take Imuran or mp6 because they make me very sick to my stomach.
In addition I'm about to be booted from my trade school program because of absence due to medical stuff. My illness has been documented with doctor's notes, but I guess doesn't count because we're only allowed 9 misses the entire one year program. I managed to use them up already due to a flare, MRSA in my throat, and MRSA on my skin. I'm going to talk to the ADA coordinator tomorrow, but it doesn't look good. I had a 504 thing in high school, so maybe I'll have to go that route again. When I was at university, all I had to do was talk to my teachers one-on-one and they were much more flexible. I'm just so frustrated and fed up with all of this crap.
Earlier, my teacher made me go to the non-ADA counselor who was really quite rude to me, as if I was skipping school to get high. I don't look "sick" so obviously I'm just whining. She asked me, "And how do you expect to keep a job?". And that really stung because while it isn't hard for me to keep a job because I'm good at what I do, it's really hard for me to not severely piss off my bosses when I call in sick every few of weeks.
I guess I was just wondering if anyone has experienced any these things too. I'm so tired.
