Surgery

I wanted to post and let those who have just recently made the decision to have jpouch surgery or are highly considering it, that you will be ok :)  and a smart decision for those who have never found remission.  I was diagnosed with severe UC almost exactly 2 yrs ago on Feb. 20th.  I tried everything in that time period colozal, lialda, pred(3 rounds), 6MP for 10 months, Remicade 1yr., Humira.  I went to a natural doc and had food sensitivity test done and started on an exteme diet of no gluten, dairy, corn, and restricted sugar.  Plus other natural remedies.  I do believe meds and diet changes work for many people with this disease and I wanted to try and do everything to save my colon!  After my first surgery three ago they showed me pics of my colon and it looked like someone had taken sandpaper to the entire left side.  This was an elective surgery not an emergency.  I could have suffered for another couple of yrs but in January I asked my GI for another round of pred and he said no, I'm glad he did.  I had to take a medical leave from work and started on pain meds to get in through until my surgery on Jan 31st.  I will have a second sugery in May to make the jpouch and a third to reconnect every thing.  Believe me I was scared.  The one person I knew that had this surgery their pouch had failed and he lives with a permanent ostomy.  My GI directed me to a GREAT surgeon, and she had two people who have had success with the surgery and I asked with a billion questions.  Get your questions answered.  I hope this helps someone.  Life goes on and it does get better.  Let go and Let God! 

I can tell Im not in the bathroom all night long, cramping and feeling I might past out from the pain :) Im only three weeks out and still having some pain from surgery but I think in the next few weeks I will begin to feel so much better. Im going back to the natural doc very soon and get another acupunture treatment. When I had UC the acupunture showed my energy levels to be very low. I did feel my colon was sucking the life out of me and by two in the afternoon was in need of a nap! I'm curious to see my energy levels now post UC. This is a major surgery and have had some set backs a catheter for two weeks and still not feeling I'm peeing like normal. I have heard for some people this can make a month or so to resolve itself. I also have had some problems with the ostomy. What my home health nurse thinks is a yeast infection under the skin barrier I think is that I have super sensitive skin and it ITCHES ( but is starting to get a little better) skin is not use to it yet. Along with the set back I have had some big gains. I can EAT without fear of pain! Still sticking to a healthy diet but I can now enjoy a cookie or treat! Im off the merry-go-round of trying to find out what meds/foods work for me, and having two semi good days and then having three horrible days. This went on for two yrs and no real remission. Only taking an anti yeast pill for one more day and pain meds while Im healing, otherwise off ALL meds!! Praise God :)
