I had gestational diabetes and had to do a course of Prednisone during my early 3rd trimester. It will cause your sugars to go up! The things that helped me keep mine under control: cutting way back on non-fruit and vegetable/dairy carbs (bread, pasta, rice, beans, potatoes, etc.) and walking after meals. For example, if my diet allowed 4 carb exchanges for lunch, I would do one exchange of something like bread, one of yogurt or milk, and two of fruit/veg making sure I had good protein with the meal. Then, after I ate, I would go for a 20 minute walk. It was a really strict way of eating and lots of exercise, but it helped keep those sugars down. My son was 7 lbs 1 oz at birth and incredibly healthy.
