Remission: Solid stools, once daily. No blood, no urgency, no cramping. I will occasionally "feel" my colon depending upon what I eat or if my stress level rises. I think my "feeling" is more in line with a concomittant irritable bowel syndrome. My daily activity can generally be very stressful. I work as an orthopedic surgeon and deal with a lot of trauma on a day to day basis.
My Treatment: My key to maintaining remission has been VSL#3 and a modification of the specific carbohydrate diet. Basically, everything according to scd but I tolerate rice and quinoa well. My diet is very simple. I have brown rice, vegetables and farmer's cheese mixed together for breakfast. I than have yogurt with VSL 3DS late morning. Lunch is usually mostly veggies with a grain and a protein (usually chicken/fish) and dinner is the same. I eat a lot of green vegetables (spinach, kale, green beans, arugula). I go easy on nuts, they cause gas but no flare. I have yogurt and VSL3 an hour or two before bedtime.
Other contributing factors:
Besides probiotic therapy and diet, I maintain my health with Nutrient 950 Multivitamin by Pure Encapsulations, Boswellia 300 mg 2-3X daily, Meditation, Cardio/Strength training 4-5 times a week,
I have come from being dangerously close to losing my colon; have been on Remicade, Cimzia, 100 mg Prednisone, Colazal, Asacol, Lialda, Low Dose Naltrexone, suppositories, you name it. I was told I would never get of Remicade and that it would buy me a couple years to get my life in order before I would have my colon removed. I suffered horrible side effects from Remicade, but it did help bring down the inflammatory process of my colon.
