OT (sort of) - Aquagenic Keratoderma

I mentioned on here a month or so ago that I got this strange pebbling in my hands when they were wet but smoothed out when dry. I didn't know what the heck it was so I went to my primary, showed her pictures and ran my hands under water. I only had a mild reaction at that time. But because of my reoccuring rashes, she sent me to a Rheumatologist. I seen the Rheumy yesterday and he running a blood panel on me (ANA, RF etc). If the tests come out negative, then he is going to rule my body pain and rashes as Fibromyalgia.

However, the intern that was at the Rheumy's office was the same one that I saw at my primary's. He told me to ask my dermatologist if I can possibly have Aquagenic Kertoderma. I had no CLUE what that was so I have been looking it up online this morning. This condition is extremely rare apparently (approximately only about 50 people in the USA have it) and it lacks sufficient research, so the information was scarce. I finally found images and I was floored! This is EXACTLY what I have happening to my hands. I was a bit unclear on what I read could be the cause of this and I don't think that they really know either. But one of the theories is that it can happen to people that take chemo drugs for cancer. I take 6mp which is used in people that have Leukemia. It is also said to be seen commonly in women who have either Fibro or RA (all of which I am pursuing at the moment). Alot of the literature said that the majority of cases seen with AK is Cystic Fibrosis, but I don't have that so it is called either genetic AK or acquired AK.

It seems to be fairly easy to maintain so I am not that worried about it. However, why does it happen to me???? What the heck!?

Well wouldn't it be great to finally figure out what it is. I find almost the worst part to be just not knowing. Doesn't it just figure that you would have something so rare though! You do seem to have been through the wringer!

That is pretty crazy Sherry. I am happy you're working with a rheumotologist and that the tests are coming up negative. I hope you don't have fibro.

Well.... Remi has really helped some folks, and wouldn't it be great if one treatment helped several issues?
