Hi Everyone, I put up a post the other day and somehow it got removed. I contacted the mods and it looks like it got lost in cyberspace. I posted over at the crohn's forum so you can see a bit of my journey there.

Anyway, I have been on the ayurvedic meds from Dr. Harish Verma's site www.ulcerativecolitiscure.com for about 6 weeks now and I've gone from full-blown ulcerative colitis to almost 95% remission. I had a sig last friday and as I watched, the Dr. showed me how everything has really cleared up nicely. I am concurrently still on colazal but 6 weeks ago colazal was not working that great. He scheduled me for a sig and said that if things weren't going well that he might have to try steroids. As soon as he said steroids I was on a mission to try find something. I did a lot of research on Dr. Verma and couldn't find anything that said he was a scammer etc... Seemed like he really was helping people.

I realized that the herbal meds were expensive, but to me the quality of life issue was far more costly if I didn't try figure out something different. I gave it a shot and am really amazed at how well it has worked. I hope my story helps others who have been skeptical some encouragement to try Dr. Verma's treatment. I just ordered enough to cover me 6 months which is about the amount of time that he recommends before tapering off my prescrip colazal. He's done a buy 1 month get one free for me so it makes it a bit more affordable.

dr harish verma is a GOD to all UC patients..myself UC patient for 11 years...after starting his medicines 6 years ago i am relieved and living normal life...i still do take medicines Ulcerin-I and ulcerin-II. he is genuine dr and a hero to me. but now days i have got new disease which is spondilitis...just checked with appollo hospital..i still havent check with dr harish for spondilitis...i will check with him about medications for this too...UC patients are always prone to spondilitis...please do take care of opur health if you are UC patient and do exercise regularly.

Yes we did try this and it did not work for us. Don't expect a miracle cure but I would think it's worth a shot. He uses boswellia and bael extract in his meds and these are known potent anti inflammatories. I found that he was always insisting that we give it more time, first, 1 month to see a difference, then three months, then six months to a year. I don't know maybe we should have continued it but it didn't stop my daughter from going into the worst flare she's ever been in despite having been on it for over four months. I did get very angry with him by the end I must say as he kept insisting the cure was just around the corner. I do believe it works for some though.

Yes, that's new apparently. He used to ship to the US until recently. I think they were having issues with herbs being confiscated etc unfortunately.

As an Indian myself, I would like to suggest everyone, take this with a pinch of salt. Ayurveda is great, no doubt about that but the quality of medicinal plants obtained nowadays is questionable, plus the practice is more like business (because if it fails then the patient is blamed for not following food restrictions). It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a dedicated trust-worthy ayurvedic practitioner. As Ayurveda became famous in the Western world, Indian picked up too (yes, for Indians, many of their own things have to come from the West, including Yoga) Many of these drugs are regularly mixed western meds (like recent Indian FDA bust of anti-inflammatory ayurvedic meds for RA with diclofenac sodium etc.)

My guess is, it will be high doses of Boswellia along with some other anti-inflammatories.

Take a look at 'Diet for UC' section. He suggests to avoid cabbage but eat Cauliflower (when both are from Brassica family), suggests to eat Trans Fats (Vanaspati ghee), suggest to eat Mint Chutney (contains green chilli) but to avoid green chili. What a quack !!

Folks, you have been warned by an Indian. Don't complain about it later if it fails or puts you in flare.

Excellent reply by Deltaforce. The oldest tricks in the book for much quackery and snake-oil, IMO, is to make bold claims of something as a cure, then use two escape clauses which can be used endlessly to explain failure- (1) that you just need to wait another three months or six months more (as was told to killcolitis, and happened to me with a TcM guy years back- "just three more months" then three months later "just three more months"); and (2) blame the patient for not doing something in the fine print ("did you eat anything 'illegal' during those three months- maybe a few molecules n some filler?- a-ha!! There ya go!).... Those sort of excuses should be warning signs for quackery, as well as bold claims of a cure. Boswellia of course helps some. Actually makes my UC worse, and if you look in pubmed there can be some toxicity issues, but it is certainly a herb that one can try- however it is availale OTC in any health food store in North america- one needn't seek a quack.

boswellia gave me bad cramps the last time i tried it so i wouldn't risk taking a mixture of similar herbs. recipe for disaster in my gut!
