Hi

I just got back from my GI appt. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis last year. I had a flexible sigodscopy this morning because of symptoms the last few months. I have been having 4-6 loose bowel movements and lots of false urges. No blood or mucus.  My doctor was very happy to see that there was only mild imflammation only at the very end of the rectum. He said to go back on Canasa, (I was on it when first diagnosed but went off it last July and switched to Asacol ). My GI  said it wasn't enought imflammation to cause the other issues, so that I probably have IBS as well. Does anyone else have UC and IBS?

Does loose mean soft? 4 - 6 daily makes sense.

If it is IBS as well...which can kick in with any UC inflammation...I suggest you start fibre supplements.

Are you using the Canasa twice or once daily?

Are you taking the asacol faithfully?

I think you will find many of us on here have both UC and IBS, I know I have. Makes reading our UC symptoms just that much harder...

I had Proctitis for more than 2 years before they diagnosed me with IBS aswell. To be honest I have had such a hard time getting my Proctitis under control that most of the time the IBS and IBD just aggravated each other. But I did learn to single out the main issues of the IBS and that has definitely helped with the urgency and frequent bowel movements. It is hard to differentiate between the two but its vital you try to work out what foods aggravate your IBS. Maybe try doing a food/stool diary and that might help to single out some of the offenders! :-)
