Who knows? I had seen this in harpers monthly, and found the link. It's just sort of interesting. This study in Denmark shows that more people with crohn's disease have august birthdays (it peaks, and than falls to the lowest level in february) I don't know how big of a sample it is, so it might just be a fluke.

In vitro allergies? I wonder if it's reversed on the other side of the equator?

I'm an august birthday...so I guess I fit the profile:) (or at least colitis with suspicion of possible crohn's) Make of it what you will...

Very interesting. I'm thinking that mom's low levels of vitamin D during the first months of the fetus life (winter) could also affect it.

Well the study was in Denmark and Vitamin D through sunshine could be a big factor. I just read that 85-90% of our Vitamin D is supplied through sun so get outside everyone whenever it's sunny!

I can see a connection because there is already a connection of a higher incidence of IBD in Northern Europeans which includes their descendants wherever they now reside.

I'm skeptical too. As for Vitamin D and sunshine, I live in sunny California and myself, along with half my friends are Vitamin D deficient. We are all outdoor enthusiasts so I don't necessarily believe the link to low D and increased disease or a correlation to UC. D deficiency is real and should be addressed no matter where you live.

     August birthday here too but don't think there is any link.  My friend had Crohn's Disease and her birthday was in April...today, as a matter of fact, she would have been 64 yrs old.  She passed at the age of 58 due to sepsis.

I'm outdoors a lot in Florida also and came in low on my Vit D test last year. Do you use sunblock a lot? I did and think it was suppressing my D intake. I've really dialed back on sunblock and seek more sun on my skin. It has made a difference IMO.

The weird thing in FL is that in the summer the conditions are so humid and hot that year-rounders stay indoors a LOT. We went on vacation out west last August in perfect weather, outdoors constantly and my UC was almost non-existent symptom-wise.

No, I don't use sunblock or wear a hat, which is why I was shocked to get a low level rating 2 years in a row. And because it's not humid here, I'm outdoors all year round.

October baby. I definitely know I inherited all of my autoimmune disorders tendencies.

My vitamin D is definitely low and maybe was my entire life.

My flares are all over the place, but mostly around Christmas.

Not that we have a signifigant sample, but I do find it interesting that of the 9 people here who stated their b-days, 5 are in August. Doesn't mean anything... but just kind of strange.

Personally, I know I have inherited my auto-immune issues from my mother who had psoriasis for years and then developed psoriatic arthritis.

Good news for her is that she has great success with Enbrel, which has fully alleviated all of her skin issues as well as joint pain.

I'm skeptical about the correlation between birth months and acquiring UC. I'm not saying that there isn't a correlation. It's just that I would have to see some hard evidence before buying into the theory.

January birthday.

Lived in California til late twenties then moved to Michigan, where I was dxd in mid-late thirties. Back in California now and unfortunately the ibd came with me. :(
