my legs and ankles have doubled in size, swelling so bad from the prednisone

on 20mg orally and 100 mg rectally and I can't cross my legs anymore.  I skipped the 100mg last night, I think I need to call GI and tell him I am worried that I am too swollen from it.

Plus before I was supposed to take it my bleeding yesterday was darker and more of it.

Dark blood is a sign of bleeding high up the colon. Increase pred? I went back up to 40 when that happened, and tapered again (slowly)

I am on so much pred I am afraid to take more I am swelling so much.

Beth75,

I see from your signature that you also have some kidney disease issues....If I were you I would call my doctor and go in for evaluation just to make sure you don't have something more going on with your kidneys that could be contributing to your leg swelling...

I've never experienced much side effects from prednisone except for slightly blurry vision for a few days at higher doses like 30mg or more. I've always wondered why that is. I'm not a big guy either so it's not like I'm metabolizing it any easier than a smaller person.

thanks yes, I checked my proteins for my kidneys and they do better when I am on the pred but going to call my doc's to make sure.

I am so sorry you're feeling so terrible Beth. I had to go back up to 40mg too when I was tapering and lost control from tapering a bit too fast and my maintenence meds not working as they should have. I hope this isn't the case for you and it's probably not so don't stress. Have you been eating a lot of salt? I've heard salt while on pred can cause bloating.

Pred sucks! I was on 60mg for about 3 (almost 4) months, and IV steriods for a week, and I bloated like none other. My face, stomach, and legs got the worst of it. For the bloated legs walking and icing worked. Hope this works, and hope you feel better soon!!
