The GI (who isn't my usual GI) did the scope and didn't see any signs of active inflammation. He did see some scarring from my previous flare. He said that when UC is active the blood vessels in the mucosa become very pronounced and he said that wasn't the case with mine gut either. He took a couple of biopsies and I have a follow up appt with my usual GI on the 26th. He mentioned though that with my previous/initial flare my UC was diagnosed based more so on biopsies than visual inflammation so who knows what the biopsies will say.
I have to say that the flex sig was very painful. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but gas pain is something that's really hard for me to deal with and all the air they shot into me was sooooo painful. I'm afraid to fart right now because I've been passes fluffy pieces of blood/tissue from the biopsy and I don't want to fill my pant tongue

I've had numerous sigs over the years and not all of them are the same. Some hurt like crazy and others are a breeze. It will take a day, less or possibly longer, to get rid of the excess air. But do not hold it in. It will only make it hurt more. Take the time to sit on the toilet if you have to and just let it go! :)

Well, that's good news. Hope the results come back unremarkable. Sounds like IBS then...hopefully.

Yes, go and have a big fart...you'll feel so much better.

It is good news. If the biopsies come back clear I wonder why my c-reactive protein is up. He mentioned that maybe colazal is causing the D. Not sure if I agree with that. I've been on it since 2008 when I switched from asacol. I'm doing better on colazal than I ever did on asacol.

calla, I've had painful sigmoidoscopies. It's worse when you're flaring. My most recent one was while I was in a moderate flare up and it was very difficult for her to get very far into the rectum because I was so uncofmortable. It felt like pushing gas up into your rectum and you just want it out, lol. Don't pass any wind unless you're on the toilet, you don't want to soil yourself! I've had that situation after biopsies. Luckily, it doesn't usually last too long.

Some doctors pump in too much air; my gastro says it's not necessary to do that! They can also suction out the excess at the conclusion of scoping, if they are kind. Take it easy as you can for a couple days so that your lower left recovers from the scope irritation. At least the procedure is over! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Oh well. I just let it out and I finally deflated! I stopped passing the blood pretty quick--thank god
