hoping no prednisone

Heading to the GI Friday & hoping he doesn't put me back on prednisone. Been on 6mp for about 6 months with better results than anything I have taken to this point but I guess my mythical hopes that it was a miracle drug came to an end this month. I'll take longer remission though. Anyways here's to hoping I'm prednisone free still Friday afternoon!!!

I can completely relate. I remember the first time I was prescribed prednisone, I was so thankful to feel so much better so quickly but it was so hard for me to taper off and I am still carrying extra pounds. I hope I never have to do it again!! Goodluck to you.

I just started my second Prednisone short course yesterday (last one was in feb-march).
Immediate effects: Blood, cramps & mucus gone.
Side effects: headache and tired
No change: frequency and urgency (hoping it will stop soon, but in my experience, as soon as I taper down to 1/day I'm back to flaring).

What are your side effects?

Well I have been on & off a few times. I had the headaches, weight gain, energy loss, & terrible mood swings. Tapering is the key! If your starting to flare when you get to 1/day then you prob need to try tapering a little slower. I had to take half a 5mg pill for 30 days & then every other to keep from flaring. It's frustrating I know but you have to be very careful with your tapering. Hope you can figure it out & get off completely!

I had weight gain, moonface, excess hair (yucky), moodiness... in the beginning I had a lot of energy and couldn't stop moving, fast heartbeat, strong pulse at night, inability to sleep, sweating. It was terrible. I am sure I had a lot more side effects but that is all I can think of right now. I think those are all pretty standard.

NSGS, are you off pred? If so, happy pred-free days for you. I never really got the weight off...

     When I suffered with UP, before my surgery, prednisone was the ONLY drug which helped me.  However, it gave me osteoporosis, high blood pressure and high glucose levels, not to mention insomnia, mood swings and all the other little goodies eyes .   If a short course will help, go for it, but, be careful you don't get to the point where I was.
