Left side pain -- really sharp

It just started a few hours ago. It comes and goes. It's coming from my left colon and when it comes the pain is so sharp that it makes me sick (I vomitted once). After ten or twenty minutes or so, it goes away and then comes back 10-20 minutes later.

I've actually never had it before. I have been having a lot of diahrrea lately and recently dropped from 15mg to 10mg prednisone (two days ago).

Does anyone have any advice for getting through it? Thanks.

I think if I were you, I would go back up to 15mg until I was feeling more stable and decrease slower. 5mg under 20mg is a lot for many of us. I Know I couldn't have gone that quickly without flaring. I think I went from 15mg tot 12.5 to 10mg and then I went 1mg a week to 0!! It was hard, especially because I wanted off pred but it worked.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm going to make a doctor's appointment tomorrow.

It wasn't that quickly, I should have been more specific:

I started with 30mg for two weeks
20mg for two weeks
15mg for two weeks

...and now I'm at 10mg for two weeks. It's also my first time on prednisone.

Seeing the doctor is probably the best thing to do. Maybe you can add some rectals to get you back on course. Were you feeling 100% when you went from 15mg to 10mg? Sometimes I find that things will get unstable for a few days when you drop the dose.

I read your post and thought, gosh, this sounds like my son in the middle of a kidney stone attack.........
Are you sure it's you colon that hurts?

I'd try to get medical attention asap if the pain is that bad.

It's morning now and the pain is gone completely. It might come back, who knows. If I have it again then I'll probably go to the doctor and see if it's kidney stones. It's not a good time for me to be going through this right now as I just moved, started a new job and am currently not insured (not until my new employer gets around to adding me to their insurance). I'm also between paycheques so whatever it is, I hope it doesn't come back until after I'm paid and insured!

It might have been colon spasms too. Maybe bentyl?

Whatever it is, it's gone. I was in horrible pain for one night and then the next, it wasn't nearly as bad (barely even noticeable).

Gas? Maybe there was some blockage? No idea. My BMs are fine too despite a tiny bit of mucous.
