pred alternatives?

So I've been flaring for quite a while and my GI said he has no choice but to put me on prednisone which I have with me already. I havent started taking it yet.

Perhaps if you just asked if anyone has natural alternatives to pred?)

I've tried some natural alternatives and I don't think any of them have ever gotten me into remission. It is possible that they could help keep you in remission but honestly, I am doubtful of this. I wish it was that simple for me. This is my experience, other people may have other input.

Maybe you could try some rectal meds.......Rowasa enemas or cortenema. they really work for me in a flare.
Along with green tea :)

(AFAIK) In case of acute inflammation, there is no other solution than steroids. Steroids put you in remission and then medicines like Rowasa or similar maintain that remission. I have tried bypassing steroids and it does NOT help so don't bother doing that.

Different things work for different people. I have had UC since 2003 and have never had anything stronger than rectal meds.
during a flare.

I am a believer in starting small so you can always go to stronger drugs.

I agree with padedo. My dad has had UC for over 30 years and has never taken prednisone. Of course he does have a milder case than me, but he ups his sulfa and uses rectal meds, the rectal meds have always really helped him.

Google natural anti inflammatories, there are many that may help but certainly not as strong as pred or with the nasty side effects.
