Firefighter with colitis/choosing careers

So im in college majoring in computer science to be a software engineer. I also signed up to be a firefighter about a year ago. I just got a call from them today(finally) to take the test in july or december. I really thought that they wouldnt call me since they have been laying off a lot of firefighters recently and doing budget cuts.

Now I have heard that being a firefighter is one of the most stressful jobs. You guys think this is a bad route for me since stress can cause flares? I have had a flare once because of stress but maybe theyre exaggerating about it being one of the "most stressful". Any firefighters here?

IDK how quick the process is to become a firefighter but if it is quick, I was thinking about working as a firefighter while I go to school and when I graduate which would be in 3 years, I would quit and find a job as a software engineer if I cant handle firefighting.

Ive done both wildfire and urban firefighting... I don't find it stressful at all. It's very organized. Say in great shape and have a fun camaraderie with the guys.
The states might be different, but in Canada you need your 1001, which is a series of tickets before you are a professional firefighter. It is not a super quick process. You could be a volunteer firefighter while you go to school and start collecting the tickets, that would be a good way to do it.

Thanx JamesonM, staying in shape is another reason why I would like to become a firefighter. Did you ever have to take time off work because of a flare? If so, do they understand and give you some time off with no questions asked?
