Does anyone wear a medical alert?

such as a bracelet etc? is it worth it? do you have to have anything special? or can you just get a normal bracelet engraved and say its a medical alert? were you recommended to get it or did you just do it by yourself?

I have an odd form of migraine and I wear a medic alert bracelet that I ordered online.........I did not like the ones you could buy at the store - too ugly! I think it is important to wear a bracelet with the red medic alert symbol on it so people can recognize that it is a medic alert bracelet and to read it for information. Mine just lists the name of my condition and my husband's name and phone number. My husband was pretty anxious when I was out and about by myself b/c my migraines can hit out of the blue and I can lose consciousness - so we cut a deal - I wear the bracelet and can still keep my independence and he worries less.

I have in the past. Not currently because I need to get a new one made that is a bit higher quality. I wear it because I have asthma and arthritis, along with the UC. I also shouldn't take NSAIDS. So, I wear one so that people check my wallet for my medical card! :) I highly suggest that even if you don't wear a bracelet, you carry a little card that lists drugs you're on, allergies, etc. It's extremely helpful in an emergency!

Always as I have allergies to penicillen and a very rare disease, besides our common one.
I usually end up at the Emergency Department on an average of every 18 months.
With the exception of 1 time no one has looked at the medic alert bracelet.
To be fair the district hospitals here in NZ have everything and everyones digitalised GPs records at the press of a few buttons, the lot are there and as soon as they take me in they know the lot. Sinister or not it is a lifesaver....it does follow you over here for ever.

The medic alert bracelet/necklet in NZ costs 45 dollars. Through an official organisation. Covers you for life engraved with your problem and a number. Ambulances can text them plus the number and it's all there.
Unless you have a volitile condition they need to know about if you are unconcious it probably isn't important.
Ask your doctor next time you see him/her.

I used to wear one, it basically said that I was allergic to sulfa and codeine, my name and an emergency telephone number.

But if you have no allergies or any other serious condition, you don't need to wear one if you don't want to or you can if it makes you feel better. It's up to you :)

I have one that I wear when I'm taking prednisone since you don't want to end up suddenly off of it if you've been at a high dose.
