It is the only drug I know of (aside from Remicade) that can have extremely quick results on active inflammation. If you're badly inflammed, OTC antidiarreals probably aren't the best idea as they can increase the risk of toxic megacolon. Have you inquired about using cortisone enemas? Maybe he will be more open to letting you try those but you really should have Rowasa on hand. Cortisone enemas aren't an overnight solution, nothing is going to have you well by tomorrow - definitely not diet and extra rest. Sorry but that's reality.
