I agree with both Notsosicklygirl and imagardener2: diet is a big plus, and certainly try and get on some patient assistance programs.
IMO, you should definitely try and be dairy and wheat free.
You could look into the SCD diet - Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Many have been helped by it.
Also, you may want to add some supplements that have been shown to help with inflammation in UC: omega 3 oil or krill oil (at least 2000mg), probiotics VSL#3, slippery elm bark powder, and also L-Glutamine 15 grams at least to help with colonic repair.
Lastly, alot of the pharma drugs for UC, mesalamine pills, enemas, and suppositories, and certainly the remicade infusions are sooooooooooo expensive, you may want to think about trying something called LDN - low dose naltrexone -, a pretty cheap drug. Its cost is probably close to $25. a month, and it has been shown to put patients with crohns into remission.
