Is boswellia and olive leaf extract safe to use in conjunction with the SCD? I was considering trying aloe vera but read that it contains some sort of laxative which Elaine has said is bad. Also, have you had any experience with boswellia or olive leaf extract?

I know the diet is more of a guideline than an exact science. There are some things legal on the diet that really upset certain people and other things illegal that people can tolerate. You have to figure out what works best for you.

I don't recall ever reading about boswellia or olive leaf extract in the traditional SCD guidelines. Elaine Gottschall worked with an MD to develop SCD and stayed within the food area, not so much supplements. You are right about aloe vera being "illegal" but it is available now with the laxative part taken out.

I personally tried boswellia twice and it did not agree with my gut, other people here have gotten better results. Also bought olive leaf extract 6 months ago but since my remission was doing so well never used it because "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

The only supplement I take that is not legal on SCD is the probiotic VSL#3, it is beneficial for me and I had no improvement on other probiotics.

I've used boswellia (in higher doses) with SCD. did not made me feel better nor worse. Some feel much better with those suplements.

did not used olive leaf extract, but i've used olive Extravirgin oil. made my colon burn... and got me into a lot of D.

Regarding SCD - i suggest you keep a food journal, there are SCD legal foods that do not agree with all of us. It's hard to tell them apart if you do not keep track of your diet.
For example, as of past week:
I've had a lot of cherry - it's their season here in Romania. First time i've had fruits for a long long time. Started with 0.5 kg then upped to 1 kg / day, in the morning as a single meal. At the beginning i was feeling much better - even my regular AS pains that i have were gone, though in remission were better.
Then after a couple of days gas followed. I've paid no attention to it, since i sooooo love cherries... Ans my AS just disappeared while on cherries.
And yesterday i've made the mistake of combining dry cottage cheese & honey with cherries in the same day (not on the same meal).
Today i had a lot of gas and D. The night was awful, the day worse... My Ankylosing Spondilitys came back in strength. There are months that i did not felt this bad.

So legal SCD foods, if combined the wrong way can make you feel worse too.

Stick to the diet that suits you and you'll have no need for supplements, maybe except for Vit. D and some pancreatic enzymes. And be patient, i've entered remission after 1 long year of experimenting.

Just my 2 cents.

LOL Alinus because I love cherries too and for the last year and a half haven't eaten them because all fruit caused me D. But my gut has gotten better and is able to handle some fruit now and in the last week I had some frozen (not fresh) cherries. Yum. I know the fresh ones would be more difficult for me so I'm staying away for now. No D at all.

But then you are able to eat the DCCC and I cannot :-( Maybe someday....

Just curious, if you've ever tried Cherry Concentrated Liquid - it's supposed to be much, much more potent than the actual cherries, and you can buy it by the bottle, add a certain amount in your bottled water and still get the benefits of it? There are many companies that make it out there. DCCC=dry curd cottage cheese AKA farmers cheese. the only kind of cottage cheese allowed on SCD

i've cheated.
once every two months i cheat with some DCCC and honey. off course, i pay for it. but this time, combined with the fermentation from the cherries things did get wrong...
I've stopped the gas - returned to the diet in my signature - and no more D also. There's some gut pain and also AS is flaring.
But i am sure that keeping the diet from my signature i'll be back on track in a few days. happened before...
