Depends on why you have it. One common reason is rectal inflammation, a symptom that's mostly missed.
But, regardless, one should try to get the stool softened and bulked (fluffier) so that it's easier to pass, as well as to keep the colon working.
When the rectum has limited inflammation, the signals to the colon get mixed up and the colon seems to slow down....which isn't what we need.
You can increase fibre intake...most of us use fibre supplements. You need to make sure you're eating enough foods, not only easy to process foods or just liquids. Too much fibre, on the other hand, can exacerbate constipation, but there are many kinds of fibres to take in. Trial and error
Stool softeners...Sodium docusate.
You can increase fruits if you can tolerate them.
Drink enough fluids.
Fish oil in low dosages can help make the stool a bit more slippery...therefore easier to pass through an inflamed butt.
Rectal meds...absolutely if you're in an early flare or coming out of a flare....
