CANASA suppositories & Liver & Kidney function?

I know that the 5asa mesalamine products can have negative effects on liver and kidney function, and have read on the Forum about those having been greatly affected with kidney and liver problems as a result.

My question is:  is it the same with Canasa suppositories?

Does use of Canasa suppositories also translate into possible kidney and liver problems?

Does anyone know about this?  Thank you.

Because a high concentration is placed directly on ulcers, enemas and suppositories can have the higher systemic absorption than 5ASA oral medications. Keep in mind that kidney and liver problems are very rare and some studies show that 5ASA protect against those problems..ie it might be UC not the medication that is causing the adverse event.

I don't think it's a problem unless you are highly sensitive to it.

The Canasa is low dosage and the absorption rate is not high via blood to kidneys or liver.

Actually, your rectal meds should be much higher and the oral lower.

If you have been on mesalamines before w/no problem I wouldn't expect it to affect your kidney's and liver now. Just keep an eye for any swelling in your ankles, that was an indication of kidney disease for me.
