Hi,
When I had a really bad flare in the winter, a hot shower was what I needed to keep calm, relaxed, and help me get to sleep. However I noticed, I take really hot showers, my skin dries, my feet turn beet red, sometimes my eyelids dry out, and my flare took forever to go away.
Now, I take cold showers in the morning before my day. At first I did not like it, however I am not beginning to enjoy the rush it gives me in the morning. I find it helps me be more productive, awake, and assertive. Related to the forum, during my recovery from flareup regiment (strict diet, night meds) it helped my mood/mind/ and my flareup quickly retreat...
Any thoughts? Any reactions? Since we suffer from inFLAM(E)mation, maybe cooling our bodies will help?
Thanks

LOL I don't think I could handle a cold shower in the morning! I don't think my body could handle that shock. :) Besides, I have Raynauds so that wouldn't be a good option for me. I live in a cold state but I have never noticed a correlation between being cold and my Uc behaving.

During the winter time, lack of blood circulation makes my flare up worse. For example, if I let body out in the cold then I don't feel good and I have less appetite. I tried taking really cold shower before and it only makes me fatigued out(also heart beats really fast).
If you sprain your ankle or get tendonitis from playing sports or w/e, coaches would tell you to ice them and it works but I think for UC's inflammation, it is different. Sometimes I think inflammation occurs due to the addition of lack of blood circulation in the intestines for me even though everyone says it's unrelated. Taking a hot bath/shower calms me down for me. We're all different.

I agree, a hot shower calms me down too, but in the morning we need to be awake... you just got up, you don't want a hot shower that will make you go back to bed, a cold one braces you and ready for the day...
good results, its kind of what I expected.... anyone else?
