Bleeding was the final symptom where my "at the time" doctor finally sent me to a GI (after the loser test of barium enema which showed nothing of the 15 inches of severe inflammation). But I was in a progressive flare for years.


It would mean a matter of inflammation degree, to the point of friability or fragility.

I don't normally bleed with flares now that I've learned how to use my meds and increase at the very first symptom of frequency, urgency and extreme rectal pain and cramping upon bms.

If one bleeds as a first sign, the flare has been there before that point. The symptoms probably were suspected as a flare, but not felt or seen or understood.

I have bled with one flare when I stopped my estrogen patch medication...that was a shocker since I hadn't bled in about 15 years before that.

I don't know how to answer the poll, so I'm answering in the thread.

Bleeding is my main thing. Only if it progresses, I guess to the point where the blood pools, do other symptoms, such as urgency and frequency, kick in. Otherwise, just normal BMs, tinged with varying amounts of blood.

I am a bleeder too. Some days are worse than others but if I am flaring, I am going to be bleeding. If I am in remission and I see a drop of blood, I freak out!

I've never bled. I don't know why. Sometime I wish I were a bleeder because it would be so much easier to distinguish between UC D and IBS D.

first thing to show up .. last thing to go away... everyday with bm during flare - amount varies though but some days can seem scary!

Ugh I have been bleeding a ton this flare. Amazing but I have not been anemic yet.

Bleeding is what alarmed me enough to finally go to the doctor when I had my first flare.

I usually do. Sometimes I may not see blood, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

I am definitely a bleeder. Sure, I have other signs that things are going downhill, but usually things for me go downhill so fast that the bleeding hits quick.

Once I start bleeding, I bleed pretty much constantly-I really don't get a lot of warning. And so far, the TNF blockers have been the only thing that have been able to get the bleeding truly under control, so I am working really hard to keep things steady and on an even keel this time.

I always bleed when I flare.
I had no rectal or intestinal/abdominal pain for the first 20 years of UC - often my first clue of a flare would be bleeding.

I've learned to pay better attention now and I realize my first sign of a flare is excess gas..... but then it's followed by bleeding.

I was quite surprised by the results. Yes. I'm a bleeder. There have been times in which the blood came out like pee, and I pass a ton of blood clots. I thought everyone who had UC bled when they flared.

I voted 'not at all', but technically that's not true. I guess I'm still in my first flare, just finished tapering prednisone, I feel 99% better but my stomach still feels off pretty much 24/7.

That has been my main complaint with UC, nausea/a discomfort feeling (can be anywhere from below my belly button to just under my sternum). I've only had a very tiny amount of blood on a stool once about a week before I was diagnosed, haven't had any since.

I had actually convinced myself I had Celiac Disease despite a negative blood test, since according to some website my symptoms could be IBS, Crohn's, UC, or Celiac. I googled Ulcerative Colitis, as soon as I read bleeding I immediately closed the tab and wrote it off (this about a month before I was diagnosed). Same with Crohn's.

One more bleeder here. Now i'm in some light/moderate flare (rectosig) with 4-5 stools daily and ALL of them with blood (i would said a lot). I bleeded also when i was in long remission (but only 1-2 drops of blood and usually 1 stool). Now i'm using salofalk enemas, but it didn't help, so i think we are going to use some steroids for first time in 7 years.
