From what I've googled, it looks like an overgrowth of yeast can cause both UC and acne and the good bacteria in the VSL will crowd out the "bad" bacteria. Could it be that the VSL is "curing" both problems? They did take a bunch of biopsies when they did my colonoscopy but I don't know if they check for things like yeast, so it may have been undetected. If my UC has been caused by yeast, does that mean that once I go into full remission I might be able to maintain remission just by taking probiotics?
Hmmm....For me, I believe my UC symptoms were fungus related. After doing a lot of research on my own, and discovering fungus can cause many dseases, (and I had been exposed to fungus by taking antibiotics and birth control pills (promote yeast overgrowth), and had lived in water-damaged and moldy/mildewy houses), I decided to experiment with an antifungal program, including natural antifungal supplements and probiotics. Within 2 weeks, my symptoms were remarkably improved. Kept on a modified diet, eventually all symptoms disappeared, and am still symptom-free and meds-free. I agree with what you are saying about bacteria imbalance perhaps being a cause of your symptoms, but in the middle of that could also be some yeast/fungus issues. I have read of studies where a no-grain, low glycemic diet can help clear up acne. I guess to see if your hypothesis is correct, you could experiment with an antifungal plan and see if you continue to get the results you are looking for. I would be cautious using antibiotics.
