Hi all! For what it's worth...
I started out with proctitis, grew to colitis, then pancolitis over this past year. The meds I took didn't work. My GI's refused to believe that Prednisone did nothing for me and one GI even called me crazy! My first GI labeled me as indeterminate colitis because my disease stopped at mid transverse colon, and my rectum wasn't ulcered. My second GI labeled me crohns colitis because my ulcers were very deep! After Remicade failed me, I decided to take the plunge and have surgery to remove my colon. Knowing in the back of my mind that if I did have crohns, I might be stuck with the pouch for life with no chance of a j pouch. I was in so much pain I just didn't care what my future held! I was in surgery for 7.5 hours and they only removed my colon (no j pouch). I was really sick! I needed two separate blood transfusions during surgery because of my anemia. Anyway! They sent my colon off to pathology...guess what? NO crohns! I was terrified to get my results because I knew having crohns would destroy me since I am so resistant to meds! My point? GI docs can be wrong! I encourage second, third, fourth opinions! For anyone discouraged like I was wondering which disease they actually have. God bless!
