I'm getting my first ever colonoscopy in one week. I'm doing the miralax and Dulcolax prep and have a few questions for those that have btdt.

1. Do I have to drink the whole bottle or just until I start pooing clear. I weigh 100 pounds and don't get how I would have to drink the same amount as someone twice my size.

2. How long afterwards are you "out of it"?

3. My in-laws are having a cookout the next day - will I be feeling bad the next day?

I should also mention that I'm not in a flare. Not sure if that makes a difference

I had to drink the full amount. I was only about 100 pounds at the time and I admit, I didn't make it through the whole thing but I drank as much as I could. I took the dulcolax beforehand and for me, it didn't work as it should have. I didn't start going for hours and I cramped and threw up. I didn't feel very good at all. I think the pill prep was easier for me but it didn't clean me out as well. I am not sure if my GI would let me do the pill prep again because of that.

You feel really out of it for the first 30 minutes or so after waking, after that, I just wanted to eat.

1. First time I had the Ducolax prep I questioned the same thing. I was told you should drink the same amount to ensure you're cleaned out.

2. Out of it as in you're on the toilet? For that, it took a few hours for me. I started the prep in the evening, had to wake up early to finish the rest. I didn't feel the greatest, since it reminded me of my first flare. But it didn't make me feel horrible.

3. You may feel just fine, or you may feel a little off. For me that's how I felt.

I can't answer about that prep since I never used it, however with my past preps, I only did as much as I could and until I was going clear.

Usually you wake right up after the scope. You may be a little out of it for rest of the day or wide awake - it depends on how you handle anesthesia.

The next day, normally I am a bit crampy and a little sore from where they took biopsies. But overall, I don't feel too bad.

Yes, you have to drink the whole thing. I specifically asked my doctor and he said - got to drink the whole thing.

I had alot of trouble just drinking it down, it made me feel like I was drowning in liquid, it was an awful feeling.

And then the "cleaning out" oh, that was fun. I felt like my colon and rectum were on fire the whole time. Not something I am looking forward to repeating.

Luckily, my GI told me I'm due dor my next one 3 years after the first one.

The "out of it" feeling lasted about 45 minutes, until after the effects of the anesthesia wore off.

 But I should warn you about the GAS, painful gas, that you'll probably get from the colonoscopy. It comes from the air they pump or goes into you from their instrumentation, seems it's quite significant.

You may feel a little weak the day after...hopefully not.
