Naltrexone???????

2 questions for people who've used Naltrexone:

1: were you able to find a way to make it taste at all okay? when i took it this morning, i decided that my doctor was a sadist who just wanted to laugh when i told him how awful it was. is it worth it to have the pharmacy add a flavor to it or anything?

2: did it work???????????????

Are you on Naltrexone or LDN (low dose naltrexone)?

What dosage?

I don't understand why it would taste bad, is it liquid?

And why are you taking it in the morning? It is usually taken 10-12pm.

it's Naltrexone in a liquid suspension. I was told to take it in the morning to avoid insomnia. he said the dose was 1/10 the dose of the smallest pill so i could only take it this way.

Ok, so he's probably giving you a low dose naltrexone since he said it was 1/10th the dosage. Normal naltrexone dosage could be 50mg, so 1/10th dosage would be 5mg.

Most people who take LDN, take it at bed time. It seems that when it's most effective, because of the way it operates. There is no insomnia with it, yes there are vivid dreams.

Maybe you should ask him if you could try taking it at bedtime 10pm to 12pm to see if it might be more effective for you,no?

I don't know. I just started it yesterday, so I should probably see how it goes for a little while. How long did it take for you to start to notice a change?

...and how do you take it if not orally?

I didn't do well on oral LDN. I had problems with the filler, and then found I couldn't absorb it well.

So after wasting 5 weeks, I finally switched to Transdermal LDN (cream).

After the 3rd day, there was a positive progress already.

my doctor didn't even mention the possibility of a cream... with the taste being so awful that could be amazing! i'm hoping that it will do something for me though. i'm also taking aloe juice, OCP3, B-Complex, and Digestive enzymes right now in addition to everything else, so hopefully the combination might do something... not getting my hopes up for three days, but hopefully it'll be quick.

What diet are you on?

SCD - specific carbohydrate diet - is been successful for many folks on this board.

And if you combine it with LDN, your results will be faster, better, greater.

But since SCD is so rigorous, and if you feel you can't do it, then just at the very least stay away from dairy (except for almond milk), and wheat - and you may find it quite a game changer as it is.

What do you think?

i'll definitely be adjusting my diet somewhat. had a burger today and boy was there a lot of blood shortly thereafter... don't know how exactly yet, but i'll let you know. SCD is definitely too hard for me though.

If SCD is too hard for you, then at least try to go dairy and wheat free and see how it goes.

You could start a food journal and mark down what you eat so you can make some correlations, no?

i had a food journal while i was in college. i talked to my GI about keeping one the other day. the problem we found going through my journal was that i could eat the same things two days in a row and have totally different days health-wise. he said it didn't matter so much what i are, but just that my stomach was choosing to flare. i don't know what to believe anymore. my herbal doc told me to stay away from red meat (which i did until today, and will go back to doing) but my mom said it wasn't making much of a difference. i'm lactose intolerant, but when i take my pills, it seems to make things okay with dairy, but my dairy intake is limited.

Yes, my GI told me diet didn't matter.

But it does big time.

Are you on any probiotics?

If you have good insurance coverage, can you have your GI write your script for VSL#3 DS , then you might have a small copay?

ugh. really bad day today with my stomach. pain even up in my chest, not heart pain, but pain. in and out of the bathroom. assuming the body is adjusting to the naltrexone but not 100% sure. no D, in fact fairly formed stools, but i'm C-dominant anyhow.

i don't know. i had eaten pretty bland, except for popcorn at a movie... but i work at a movie theater and popcorn generally doesn't bother me. the pain had started last night and i was up late trying to get it to pass. i'm usually C-dominant, so hopefully this is a sign that the naltrexone is working. increased stools would generally be a good sign right?

another bm with blood... it's not in the toilet bowl or anything... just on the stools themselves. hoping this is the "getting worse" before the better. did you experience this at all???

The LDN I take orally doesn't have much taste at all. Heck, compared to downing the psyllium seed powder in water, it's a treat!

The oral LDN that I take has no taste, and the capsule is tiny- about the size of an immodium caplet. The filler is just harmless gelatin. No taste, nada- not that I would be able to taste such a tiny capsule, since it goes straight down my throat- it is not meant to be chewed. Strange that you are being given it in liquid form.
