Paranoid about appendicitis

I have UC and usually have really bad pain on my left side, but right now it is on the right, it goes from feeling like a burning pain to a stabbing pain, it is a different kind of pain than my UC pain. My whole abdomen actually feels sore, like I've done a billion stomach crunches, but haven't done anything. I have also thrown up too. I get paranoid that it is my appendix, but don't want to just be paranoid and in fact have it be my UC (although dr has told me that the UC is localized to my left side). Are there any ways I can check at home and be fairly certain that it is/is not my appendix?

There is no definite ways to check at home. I mean you can press down on the right side but that is not a definite screening for appendicitis. You need to get in to your Doctors and I recommend that you don't put it off too long. They usually will do a blood draw to check your white blood cell count. If it is normal that is a good sign that you are not having an appendicitis. Not sure what other tests they do currently, but they used to give Barium enemas as they can exactly see if you are having an appendicitis.

I began writing a paragraph about my ruptured appendix story, but decided to erase it as for me it was a devastating time in my life.

Pleez know this is probably 1-in a million chances of this happening. But the main thing is catching the appendix before it ruptures is very important. I did not have that luxury as no doctors would listen too me but finally one. Emergency surgery, almost died and was touch and go for 2 weeks.

So, pleez see your doctor. They are so good at finding out if it is, or if its not. Best of luck to you.

That's so scary Serenitee...I'm sorry that you had to go thru that. I was having similar pain in the appendix area just last December. The pain was horrible. I remember reading and hearing stories such as yours and it scared me. So I went to the ER, had a CT scan, blood draw, but luckily it wasn't my appendix - or perhaps I should've been lucky??? My whole colon was inflamed due to an undiagnosed Diverticulitis. At least with an un-ruptured appendix I could've had surgery and be done with it instead of having to deal with yet another thing! :)

It can be the terminal ileum AKA terminal ileitis.

Usually terminal ileitis is part of Crohn's, but some UCers, it can be a phenomenon known as 'backwash ileitis'.
