Just wanted to hear from some others on this:

My white blood cell count has been high consistently for several years now. The dr's always suggest I might have had a cold when having my blood checked, but ... no that's not the case, lol.

Is this ever a cause for concern? As I understand it, they are high because I'm "inflamed" and my immune system is over-acting.... I'm just thinking, shouldn't we get them back down at some point, or is it harmless?

It just always creeps me out a little bit.

I don't have the answer, but mine is usually high, too. The doc usually shrugs and smiles and says, "Oh, I guess you have some inflammation going on somewhere...."

I figure I ought to purse this, but... I've got so much going on, it just doesn't make my "to do" list.

High count is a sign of inflammation but it depends how high it is for it to be a consideration. How high is it? There are medications that can help to lowwer wbc and inflammation. Such medications are called immunosupressants.

Hi notsosicklygirl! I have been having the same problem! It seems like I can not get straight answers anywhere! My primary dr. Took some blood and everything came out great except for my WBC were high. I google myself to death and cause the anxiety I already have to shoot through the roof. I went to a GI Dr. And they think I have some sort if IBS/Colitis. So I was also curious, if I have some sort of inflammation going on in my intestines will that ause my WBC To elevate? I do have other symptoms along with the high WBC. But I am just so glad to know that I am not the only one!

My CBCs were perfect when they were trying to diagnose me. No elevated white cell count in my blood, yet my disease was getting worse and I had been in a flare for months. I had WBCs in my stool though.

My WBC is permanently below normal levels. Only time it is normal is when I take steroids. Maybe the drugs cause the count to be high.

My WBC and platelets are high when I'm in a flare-up. When I'm not in a flare-up, they are normal as long as I don't have another infection of some sort. I've been told that it can be a sign of inflammation.

Britnee, has your GI recommended endoscopy? That's the first thing my GI recommended when I told him my symptoms. You can tell actually tell a fair amount about a person's health from a CBC but for UC/Crohn's imaging is the way to go for diagnosis.
