Hi all-
Just an update. I had a partial hysterectomy 5 weeks ago, and was worried about a flare due to the drop in hormone levels until my ovaries recovered. I couldn't find any info from anyone else who had this done, so I hope this helps someone considering having a hysterectomy who also has UC. I have had NO issues with my UC after my hysterectomy. My UC is still as it was before I went in for surgery. I have less pain and pressure in my abdomen, and now I can tell if my pain is due to my cycle or due to my UC. I have a post op appt today, so we will see how I am healing up, but so far so good. I have put off this surgery for 8 years because I was afraid of what it would do to my UC. I am so pleased with the results, and everyone responds differently, but I am happy so far.

I had a complete hysterectomy...ovaries removed. So, hrt was in my med regimen.

It's great to hear all is well for you.

Looking forward to see how your schedule levels out...i'm assuming your ovaries were completely clean and no endometriosis, so you should have a better time with hormone fluctuation.

But, remember that with ovaries there will still be some hormones released and you might have some symptoms such as looser stool when your period was to happen, but I wouldn't think they would be very mild regardless.

I always wondered if having a hysterectomy would help with IBD issues or not, I guess it can be individual as well though...I also wondered if menopause sometimes helps with IBD issues as well. Being 44 now, I know that it won't be much longer before I hit menopause and I'm curious if I should look forward to it or not...my periods definitely wreak havoc on my IBD each month, even though it's a bit better now than even a few yrs ago...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Glad everything went well for you lemonhead and here's hoping it continues to.
