Pharmacy can only get me Gavis enemas. Should I do mail order?

I have never tried them but if that's what they had at the pharmacy, i'd probably give them a go. If you don't like them, try to get the perrigo ones. I use them and they work well for me. Some people only do well on Rowasa brand, I've never even tried those.

I actually ended up not throwing mine out. I did get a box of Perrigo ones from my local pharmacy, and was prepared to fill a mail order prescription for more, then my sister (who is an MD) pointed out that since there's nothing wrong with the medication, to use a Perrigo enema, then keep the bottle and reuse it. So, that's what I'm doing. Since you don't have any Perrigo enemas, you could get a Fleet enema from your pharmacy (they are OTC), discard the solution it comes with, and reuse that bottle.

As for the mail order pharmacy, we're required to use mail order for recurring prescriptions, so I can't help you on that one. I'd call your insurance and see what they suggest.

The caps on the Perrigo bottle unscrew really easily, but the ones on the Gavis bottle are hard to unscrew (I think b/c the plastic on the bottle is so thin, it's hard to grip it tightly enough to get the cap unscrewed w/o squeezing the enema out). So I just squeeze the medication out of the Gavis bottle into the Perrigo bottle. Then I lube up the tip of the Perrigo bottle with some Neosporin. After I'm done, I just leave the bottle sit until morning, so I'm not up for too long after using the enema. In the morning, I unscrew the bottle and rinse the inside out really well, then wash the tip with some soap, and rinse that really well, too. I mean, it's not like the enema tips are sterilized when they're made...think about how bacteria-laden your rectum is, after all!

I'd feel an occasional pinch with the Gavis enemas. And really, who knows if it really did cause the abscess, but I figure that I'm not taking any more chances.
