antibiotics = flare?

Of course I have pink eye....going to the primary care Doc this afternoon.  Anyone flare from going on antibiotics?  should I up my probiotics?

I think they just give you some antibiotic eye drops. I wouldn't think that would be as bad as taking oral antibiotics and sadly it seems everyone is different in regard to taking them...some do ok...some flare.

Pink eye is generally viral, not bacterial, so you may not even need the eye drops. A lot of docs will go ahead and give them anyway, though. My husband and I both contracted pink eye about 18 months ago, and our doc did not rx eye drops b/c he was sure it was viral. The only thing that can "fix" viral pink eye is time. Apparently, the gunk you get with bacterial pink eye is super grody and my husband and I did not have that.

However, if you do have bacterial pink eye, I think eye drops would suffice, and it would be pretty rare to flare due to eye drops.

Some flare with antibiotics, but I never have, knock on wood.

I get pink eye at least once a year. Never have done oral antibiotics just antibiotic drops.

Oral antibiotics usually equal flares for me, but I doubt eye drops would be an issue. I agree with the other people here who said sometimes all you need is time to cure pink eye, doc told me the same thing when my 4 year old had it.

So I use alternative treatments and suffer the pain unless it's too risky not to take antibiotics (e.g. bladder infections)

It depends on the type of antibiotic since Flagyl is an antibiotic and it's specifically used for IBD. I agree that for pink eye you shouldn't need to take oral antis, drops should be sufficient enough.

I've been taking oral antibiotics for just over a year now lol. Augmentin aka co-amoxclav 625mg per day (3 tabs a day) seem ok?

I am on some eye drops and even though everything I have read says it's viral and goes away on it's own, in almost a day it is 75% better. Hope it helps my bum!

I have just taken anitibiotics three different times for a UTI. I over loaded on the probiotics while taking them and was fine.

I hate antibiotics. They are prescribed far too often. I never taken them anymore unless absolutely necessary and in the case I do take them, I take a strong probiotic too.

Why have you been on antibiotics for over a year?! No...that doesn't seem okay.
