Hey guys, just felt I'd give a quick update. I'm not online much anymore due to being busy with school and wedding planning.

The UC has mostly stayed in remission with an exception of one minor flare that started a few weeks ago. It was probably due to stress as the professor I was working under at the time was a batcrap crazy workaholic with mood swings worse than my mother...but I caught it early, started rectal mesalamine and it's under control now. Pity, as I was actually very interested in her research.

My studies are going very well and I pulled mostly A's in the summer semester. I actually ended up in a permanent lab that studies IBD, so hopefully I will be in posting helpful updates from my research and background readings now and then. Also my fiance is moving down after the holidays, and we have finally set plans in motion to get married next July.

But yes, busy busy busy!

Hi, I actually mentioned you to my husband the other day...(he asked something I can't remember).

Happy to hear you're doing well!!!! Sucks about the prof like your mom (mood disorder)...I'm not clear on whether you quit the class or that it's over or you were put in another class.

Awesome about IBD study lab...

I thought your fiance was already living near you...nice to hear wedding plans are underway.

I hope you continue to keep things controlled as well as you have, and I am truly proud of all your amazing accomplishments considering the tough time it's been family-wise over the past few years for you.

I'm glad to hear you're doing well and I can't wait to hear some updates from you regarding IBD research.

quincy, she was probably doing a rotation under the BSC prof. In grad programs, new students often do a series of rotations under different profs in order to determine which lab they want to stay in to do their graduate research.

So great to hear from you! Glad you got that flare under control quickly -- sounds like you have a lot going on in life right now! You are one amazing young woman and you've definitely done well with every challenge that's been handed to you thus far. Best of luck with the wedding plans, and can't wait to hear about the research.

Hey Malkavian, nice to see you. That is great that you are doing so well. You are busy but sound very happy. How awesome that you are working in a lab that studies IBD.

July is a great month to get married in! 14 years and counting.... :)

Wow, Malko, it's awesome getting this update from you!!!!!!!!! about a month ago I put in a post calling you here because I was getting worried. I thought you might have gone to NJ for wedding planning & got into some hassle. So it's great to hear that you were safe in summer session, also that you'll be giving us new IBD info in future posts! (Sorry about that pesky professor, though.) Good luck in the new academic yr & definitely let us hear from you as time permits. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Thanks for the sentiments, guys.

I'll try to be in more often to give updates, particularly in regards to my research. Of course I can't post anything we haven't published yet as that's really risky (don't want to get scooped as it's not like this forum is private) but I can definitely post our recently published stuff.

quincy, fruitgirl is correct, i was in a rotation. We do 7-8 week periods with different mentors to get a feel for the lab and whether or not it's someplace we'd enjoy working in the next 4-5 years and doing out dissertions. The people in my new lab are super nice so I have a good feeling about this one.

Old Hat-Funny story, I was actually back in NY/NJ visiting friends and my fiance mid August, and ended up on a plane back home the day before the earthquake happened. Luckily no one I know back home has had more severe issues than losing power for several days due to Irene.

Serenity-Yes, happy but busy seems to cover it.
