Whether or not diet works for many has to do with the cause of the disease. For some people, they are extremely predisposed to flaring. There isn't much they can do in terms of diet, no matter what stage their flare is in. Even if they are eating very healthy, they can still flare. For others, poor diet has weakened their colon. Improving their diet can help. For some people, diet is so important that it can be the sole reason for being in remission.
Most people who don't have IBD will automatically assume that it's all diet. I feel for those who are very predisposed. They are constantly being blamed for getting a disease that is not their fault that they have.
And BTW, diet does make a difference for me. However, I get serious skin inflammations, which I would have even if all I consumed was water. So I know that for some diet has little if no baring on their IBD.
