Well I'm finally off prednisone...what to expect?

Has anyone experienced things getting worse before they get better when getting off prednisone? I get pretty bad acne when i come off. My face is already starting to go down...thank the lord. the round face is the worst.


any other stories/info?

I had a very rough taper from 10mg to 0. I remember thinking I would never stabilize but I did eventually. I was thankful that many of the side effects went away fairly quickly but I am still struggling to lose a few pounds that I gained while on pred. I gained a lot but only have a few left to go. I am thankful to be off the stuff!

congratulations on getting off, I hope you're able to stay flare free for years to come.

Have you seen a dermatologist about the acne? Usually prednisone causes acne.

Hi jleath13!

How long were you on Prednisone? I just tappered off of 10mg about three weeks ago and have terrible joint pains. The moon face disappeared and the buffalo hump also disappeared. I was on it for 5 months. I just hope these hip and shoulder pains let up soon. I walk around like an old lady and can't really move until I take some Tramadol and Tylenol together.I only gained one pound and lost it, but I find it very difficult to lose any more, very difficult. sad

I went psycho after getting off prednisone. Call prednisone psychosis. Solved by a new antidepressant, but it really scared the heck out of my husband.

Hey notsosicklygirl-
What was your experience when going from 10-0? I've been at 10mg for a few days and today has worst day in a few months. I hoping that things get better once my body gets used to the drop.

My acne is actually starting to go down and so is my moon face. I never really put on weight while on prednisone but I definitely see an increase in fat under my chin and my stomach, which are going down.

Stoolie- I had been on it since the end of June at 40 mg for a while. Then had issues with cdiff and some bad days with acute symptoms. But I'm feeling good now. Will be one week off tomorrow. I have some pain sometimes but I sorta chalk it up to psychological or pain due to dehydration? Has anyone else noticed that?
