Hi- this forum has given me so much and I wanted to give back by giving some advice.
I had my colon removed and a j-pouch created on August 22. I was rough. Pain from gas. Intestines taking too long to wake up (resulting in pain and vomiting and even more weight loss). In Hospital for two weeks. I progressed to a soft diet and was sent home. Less than a week later I was re admitted due to dehydration and what was found out to be a partial obstruction.
I'm back home now and taking it ever so slow with diet. All this trouble and heartache...I got really depressed but I'm pulling through. Do I regret!? NO!! It was my only option.
Let me stress that my situation is individual so everyone is different. But here's some advice:
1. Have a support person or group if possible. Positive people who will basically be there for whatever you need.
2. After you are given the ok for food take it easy!! Don't rush. Chew, chew, chew.
3. Walk as much as you can! In the hospital and at home. This helps with gas pains and helps wak up intestines.
4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!! You NEED water and other fluids!!
5. Don't be afraid of you temporary bag and stoma. Learn to be proficient with it. You're not gross, you're not a monster...
Thanks peeps! I hope to continue healing!!
