What else can cause bleeding in a 16 year old????

She was only on the acne pills for a few days, I pulled her off them when I found out that they may cause or activate Uc. Can b/c pills or shots really activate Uc? How is that some women, when they take b/c, their Uc gets better? I guess I don't understand b/c! LOL But no, I can't take them - not because of my Uc but because they gave me horrible migraines.

I am on a progestin only pill and I feel better than I did while on an estrogen/progestin pill. I am not sure if it is related to my improvement but I did change pills prior to feeling better. I assume it is not related. Depo is progestin only but it's an old progestin that has a lot of bad side effects like acne and weight gain. I think it's levnorgestrel. I wouldn't take it myself, I am prone to acne.

She's been having D about 3-4 times a day since that blood incident. She told me her belly hurts. I told her to tell me where, she was pointing to her tranverse. I am so trying to not be concerned about this but I have to be honest. This is killing me on the inside.

Thanks Notso....I am trying not to blame myself, because I know I didn't do anything to cause this upon myself - it's the lovely genetics of my family I can blame - unfortunately my daughter is caught in the crossfire.

I am hoping it's a virus but my gut is telling me it's not. She has had D off and on for the past year. I remember one time, I had to go to the pharmacy about 6 months ago because she couldn't stop going to the bathroom and get her Immodium to slow her down. She has had random bouts of D since she was 11. But I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. I am hoping for, if I can call it the best, IBS and not Uc or Crohn's. Her nausea and stomach pain has me a bit concerned that it might be Cd, but I won't jump to conclusions until she sees her doctor..........or try not to anyway.

Sherry, I really hope it is just a bug, too. But look at it this way...if she does have IBD, at least you know all there is to know, so she'll have a great support system in you. And, she has a great example in you, in that life insn't over just because you have IBD.

Anyway, have you started her on a probiotic? It'll help her recover, if it is a virus, and it will very likely help if it is IBD.

When does she see the doc?

GREAT idea on the probiotics for sure. Do you have any on hand to give her?

I kind of doubt virus, but with stool samples, that and bacteria infection would at least be ruled out.

Would your PCP have any problems to refer her to your GI?

Sherry, remember, as forum moderator, you see the WORST of UC. I haven't posted in ages, I'm doing just fine. I am faithful about taking 9 colazal a day, I go 2-4 times a day,no biggie.Your daughter may have UC, but it doesn't mean she is doomed. I've I've had UC for 7 years and only one flare. I think if I'd known then what I know now, It would have been nipped in the bud sooner.  Yes, get her to a Dr asap, the sooner she is treated, the better, dont' you think?

Sherry, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to Tuesday's visit to the doc.

Hopefully it will be something quite benign and not UC.

I don't have a collection kit so if that is warranted, I will have to wait to see the doc.

She went to the bathroom today and showed me. It was half solid and half mush with bright red blood with the mush. I asked her if it hurt when she goes to the bathroom, she said her butt hole....yes her exact words...lol

Tomorrow can't get here soon enough!

Probably Hemmies if it's bright red, My youngest son has problems with constipation at times and one time, years ago, got hemmies from straining too much while going. There was an occasion when he passed some bright red blood from the hemmies. It's never happened again, and he eats more fibre now and tends to not strain on the toilet as much.

Hopefully that's all it is. You can also have bleeding from diverticulitis, but I don't know if you can get that at 16.

I took her into the primary this morning. She does have, according our doc "A very small hemmie at the 6 o'clock position", but that doesn't explain the diarrhea she is having so she referred her to my GI doc. She didn't want to do a look-see if she was going to be referred out anyway - lessen the shock I guess. She sees him next Tuesday. I should know more in the next couple of weeks.

Btw, I gave her my appt on the 11th and rescheduled mine until the 26th.

I'm relieved to hear she's being referred to your doc...good idea to give her your appt.

I agree that the hemmie wouldn't cause the diarrhea.
