friend needs advise on shoukd she get a colonoscopy

i am in the hospital and meet this lady her mother has colon cancer a couple of people have said she should get a colonoscopy is that doing to much (having colonoscopy)what should she expect is there a posibility of them finding something "IMPORTANT" PLEASE get back with me soon thanks

They already know she has colon cancer... What else is there to look for? Maybe the extent of severity, not much else.

How old is the lady? Does she have any weird digestive symptoms, like bleeding, pain, etc? I know everyone after a certain age is supposed to get colonoscopies as a screening measure for colon cancer (can't remember if it's 60 years old or what). She should probably ask her doctor what he or she thinks and make sure she mentions her mom had colon cancer because that does increase her chances of getting it.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

So the mother of a woman you know has colon cancer, and you are asking if she (the daughter, who does not have colon cancer that we know of) should get a colonoscopy?

If that's the case, she needs to see her primary care physician and explain her fears. If that doc thinks it is warranted, then he'll send her to a GI.

My guess is that if one's mother or father has colon cancer, then the standard screenings would start at an earlier age than what is normal.

Tell her to NOT undergo anesthesia. I had no choice and they fricken pumped enough gas in me to claim a 300 lb guy JUST BECAUSE THEY COULDNT GET ME TO SLEEP. I had horrible amnesia and suicidal mood swings all the next day, through me off for a while, doctors really dont care. So if you have the choice to stay awake DO IT.
