Id like to hear about flair frequency and duration

I was hospitalized in april of this year with a sever flair and malnutrition, and just last month started a light flair. I thought I was back in remission, but now its rearing its ugly head again.

This is the first time I have been on meds for this disease, and I have been having flares for 15 years now... Im on 1600 mgs 3 times a day of asacol. And I also take 4 packets of VSL3 DS every day. The flair so far has very little bleeding, and some mucus, and only 3 BM's a day, but after the one in April, Im just plain punch drunk. I hope the asacol and VSL keep it at bay, but I would like to know how other people's flares work. How often, and how bad, and so on if you have the time. Peace...Jeff

Godslyric, I think there are all types of flares and every person can have a mild or a severe flare. My first flare was mild and only affected the rectum. I was able to treat it with Canasa. After a few months of that, I had a much more severe flare up that required oral medication but I didn't need prednisone thankfully. I got into remission for a little over a year. The flare up following that one was the worst for me. It came on extremely quickly and I had intense cramping and discomfort. I tried to get away without prednisone but I had no luck. I had to take pred and finally started 6mp and I have been in remission sinnce - it hasn't been that long though and I've had some ups and downs that made me very stressed. There are some people who have been in remission for many years, I haven't been so lucky but hopefully my luck turns. I hope you are able to control your UC with Asacol for the longterm.
