thinking about changing meds- advice pls

So ive been taking salofalk ( 4000 mg/ day) ever since i was diagnosed in 2007, and lately ive been experiencing side effects (or at least i thinks its side effects)- nausea, major back pains... im going to see my GI next week to ask to try another medication.
so i was wondering what any of you might suggest. what meds have worked best for you- with least side effects. or any meds i should steer clear of. my condition is pretty stable, but these side effects are wearing me out. is it worth it to try something new, or should i just stay with what i got. im unsu re of what to do shakehead

Sounds like you might be flaring, actually. rectal meds in conjunction with the oral is what I'd suggest FOR SURE.

Where exactly is your UC....throughout or limited?

Quincy is right, rectal meds are always helpful.

But if you really want to go the route of least side effects, I would recommend you check into LDN - low dose naltrexone.

Do some research on LDN - low dose naltrexone, you can search this forum as they are several threads on this. I can tell you it works!

As a UC'er who has changed meds over the years I think you have to try a new one if you have reactions to the one you're on. Not familiar with salofalk (I'm US) but there should be more to choose from.

I'm not sure adding an enema will help fix the nausea and back pains (and I'm a big believer in mesalamine enemas) since you didn't mention UC symptoms that the enema helps (bleeding, urgency, etc). The back pains could be signaling inflammation, it's something to discuss with your GI.

Perhaps someone in your country can suggest an alternative med, I see quincy takes Asacol which many here use successfully. That may be the way to go.

I don't know how to get the links up to make you notice this, but I hope you do!!! Do you currently see Jill Smith?? I tried to get in to see her but she's 'currently not accepting any patients' so I'm on the waitlist and seeing a different fellow from Hershey until then but not until THE END OF JANUARY! Jeez. Just wondering or if you have any good experiences with the drs up here. I'm crossing my fingers you are not from southern florida... thanks!

Yes, I am from south florida.

I haven't seen Dr. Jill Smith, although when I called her about 8 months ago, before I started with LDN, they told me she wasn't taking any new patients.

But if you are interested in going on LDN, you know you can find another practioner that prescribes it, right?

are you guys also having vision problems, migraines, sleep problems, jaw pain, a deep voice, large hands and feet, joint pain, night sweats, small skin outgrowths, facial feature changes that have happened gradual (check photos online)?

Have you had your blood IGF levels checked?
