Aspirin & Colorectal Cancer?

Read an article on here about how Aspirin could prevent Colo-rectal Cancer. I realise that we are advised againt taking them as they can make inflammation worse but it makes you wonder.

Thoughts?

Unless I'm totally pulling stuff out of my rear, I believe that aspirin and 5ASA drugs (mesalamine) are related. I know that the 5ASAs are thought to reduce risk of colon cancer, so it doesn't surprise me that Aspirin does as well. This is why I think it's wise for all UCers should take 5ASAs (assuming they can tolerate them), even if they need stronger meds to control their symptoms.

Hmmm, interesting place for knowledge to be stored and retrieved, fruitgirl..lol.

Both aspirin and 5ASA are salicylates, so related for sure.

I'd not take aspirin for the cancer prevention reason and focus on the use of 5ASA oral AND rectal...two for one thingie.

This all makes sense. Just recently at my docs we were talking about the use of the 5ASAs and if needed once on Humira or other meds. She said that even when they become ineffective at treating the disease or symptoms that it has still shown to reduce colon cancer risk when taken a minimum dose.
