Was reading the post about all the Remicade success stories, and was wondering if I chose the wrong thing turning to Imuran, rather than Remicade, when the doc gave me the choice?

I've been on Imuran for almost 5 weeks.  The only side effect is I am up all night with nausea this last week (I take it before bed).

I know the Imuran...if it works...will take a long time.

I have Medicare and a supplimental ins, and have no idea if they would pay for Remicade or not.

So can anyone give me some success stories of Imuran putting them in remission? 

Urgency is now, and always has been my biggest problem. No blood, no D.

When can I look for some improvement?  I am on 75 MG at this time.

Okay. History of awful UC, basically flaring constantly! I'd get remission on prednisone but as soon as I came off bowels exploded again, very ill in hospital etc. On the 6-mp since January. I got up till June so 5 months remission which for me is MASSIVE. Then after that the dose was upped from 50mg to 100mg. And im sitting on 5 months basically at the moment thankfully touch wood.

I think imuran much better choice then remicade in terms of side effect etc. Sure chemo drug but the nausea will go away in around 1 month... Just take sickness tablets when needed, or you can get patches. I had same issue and appetite was v poor!
Just make sure doctors monitor your liver enzymes just to ensure liver is functioning fine as it is a cytotoxic drug.

I don't really get urgency, I mean I have ups and downs sometimes where I get some D, but its more so constipation. I get constipated maybe 1 in every 3-4 weeks. I take laxitive to help shift this, but im not sure weather this is just down to what I eat?

ive been on it for 2 months, but i slowly got back into remission while just starting up the drug, so i know it wasn't imuran that got me into remission. I really dont know if it helps me or not. GI's say it takes 3-6 months to work, but I don't think its worth it for me im getting too many physical side effects which could be from remicade too. hair loss, and a ton of acne which i never use to have. personally i dont think it has helped me and i actually want to stop taking it

Imuran has been a Godsend for me, I've been on it for over 8 years with no issues. You must keep up on your blood work and I still get seasonal flares, But my life before Imuran and after is like night and day.

Most people around here know that Imuran saved my colon and  my quality of life in general.  It worked fast and without problems.  My blood work has been spotless while on it.  I now feel "normal."  So if you are looking for a success story look no further than me.

I have been in remission for almost a year now on Imuran.  Nothing else ever put me in remission.  It has truly increased my quality of life and I am very thankful for that.  I have not had any side effects and my blood work has been perfect.  I am on 150mg.  I feel normal now!

It did take 6-8 weeks for me to start seeing results when I first started Imuran...
