Prednisone- my stomach is burning help!!!

I am having horrible heartburn, stomach burn, throat burning...even taking it witih food..is there anything else i can do? im afraid i will end up with an ulcer!!!!

I would call my GI and ask for advice. It is very common to have this issue while on prednisone. I never had heartburn in my life and while I was on prednisone, I was dealing with it. I am sure there are OTC products but GIs specialize in this, your GI will be able to guide you toward a solution. I took generic prilosec for a while. I should still be taking it because I have acid but I don't. I didn't find it all that helpful.

How much food are you taking it with? I find that I have to eat quite a bit when I take it to avoid stomach problems.

I'm having this exact problem right now. My doctor has prescribed a proton-pump inhibitor and is having me get an upper GI to check for ulcers. The PPI is helping although I still have some stomach pain. I'm tapering down, so I hope the stomach pains will start to recede.
I would definitely talk to your GI about taking an acid reducer or PPI.

Pred can cause high acid in the stomach, so if you have a problem with reflux, you'll have strong acid symptoms. Which....you need to protect the esophagus from erosion and other potential problems.

PPI is what you need...call the doctor asap and ask for a prescription...today.

He said I can take 2 Zantac per day the symptoms are on and off so I am only taking them as needed at the moment..

Take them in the morning before breakfast and you can try to take one at bedtime about an hour after your meds.

Be consistent, for they serve a purpose. It's not really on an as-needed basis. You should be committed to taking them while on pred.

are you taking the 150mg? if not...do start them on your next purchase.

Costco has them for an awesome price!
