I finally got my first Humira injection at the hospital last Thursday. I was waiting a month! For my prescription services to get it to me but wound up flaring in between remicade and the Humira so I received it in the hospital. I'm home now, and I had a rough last few days due to a low pulse rate. Lots of calls to the oncall doctors and basically Humira is the only thing that was out of the norm and could possibly have caused it. I was just wondering if anyone else had this same problem?
I did get the bruising from the injection and the soreness in the one leg but the low pulse was the worst!! I just was hoping it was a one time thing and not something I'll get every injection. Any experiences with Humira I'd really like to hear about

So should I somehow make this post more snazzy or there just aren't that many Humira takers? Lol I mean I know I'm on some pain pills so maybe my sentence formulation isn't that good. Just want to know anyones side effects from Humira and if they do get a low pulse rate if it's every time.

Not that many Uc'ers are on Humira. Perhaps you can ask this on our Crohn's forum as well.
For me personally, if the Remicade fails me I am done. I don't even want to attempt Humira. I've had this too long and my fight is gone.

Oo good point Sherry forgot mostly Crohn's take Humira. I'll go post over there as well. Yea I hear ya on the lack of fight. Im over all of these meds and side effects and missing life. I hope to have my surgery by the end of Feb. I think I'm even going to have a "I'm evicting my colon" party!
Remicade failed me unfortunately. : ( I became allergic to it. And it honestly felt like a bandaid anyway. As soon as I'd get close to 6 weeks from my last infusion I'd start to experience some symptoms nothing horrid but enough to be upset I still had another 2 wks to wait for another remi infusion.

I wish you'd made an "I don't know" option to pick as an answer. I've been on Humira for almost 2 years now, am doing ok. I honestly don't know if this will be my last step prior to surgery- who knows what's going to happen???

I am on humira and i just got increased to weekly instead of every two weeks. I not only have uc, but i got arthritis also. It is being used to control both. My rhuemy increased it due to the fact that he thinks i am not responding to every other week. Honestly, I don't think it is helping my UC at all. Maybe weekly will help more with it. I just started weekly, so time will tell

Yea I am hoping the Humira will work but I just don't care anymore if it does long term. Bostwis1 I wish you luck on your surgery and I'd love to chat with you more about it!

I know there are other alternative options I could have tried, but you get to the point where you are just sick of being sick. I am steroid dependent and refuse to stay on prednisone any longer. It is such a nasty drug. I am actually more excited than nervous about the surgery. I think about all the things I had to miss out on the past year and a half. UC is something that is always on my mind. After surgery I won't have to worry about missing out on an event because am sick. I am ready to graduate college, get a job, and plan my wedding without having to worry about UC.

The doctor had me on 6MP for seven years (never kept me in a long term remission). He took me off the 6MP two weeks before starting me on Remicade. It failed after my 3rd infusion. More than likely, if the Remicade failed so will the Humira. At least that is what my infusion nurse told me. Well, I did the Humira for three months...and she was right..it did fail. Or maybe it just didn't work at all...no change. Became prednisone dependent and had surgery last year.

I am not on Humira but I have thought about this a lot. I don't think it would be my last step before surgery. I think I would give worm therapy a try, fecal transplant, LDN, triple antibiotic therapy, Clinical Trials... I don't see any reason not to try these things. At the same time, some may say any of these treatments are just buying you time and surgery is in the longer term outlook, and they are probably correct. I just feel like UC is unpredictable but I went into remission unexpectedly recently, it could happen again. I would hate to remove my colon and feel like there may have been a way to save it. I wouldn't have surgery unless I was in a long flare with no remission and I felt like there was no hope or that my long term outlook with UC was bad/headed towards CC. I am not saying everyone should feel this way. As I said, surgery may be the best decision, it would eliminate the UC and all of the 'what ifs' but it does bring about it's own challenges. If I ever get to that point, I could give you better feedback.
