Remicade and TB question

Has anyone gotten , or known anyone to get TB? I have had an annoying cough and I think it's been almost three weeks. Starting to wonder but don't want to press the panic button. It sounds pretty bad though. On the other hand my kids have kind of had a cough. I am going to call my GI.

To clarify, Remi doesn't cause people to get TB. If you have inactive TB and go on remi, the TB can reactivate and be devastating. I don't personally know anyone this has happened to, likely because (at least here in the US) most docs require a yearly chest x-ray and/or TB skin test for people on Remicade.

If you're worried, a simple chest x-ray can tell whether or not you have TB or any other lung disease.

Did you not have the TB test before starting on Remicade? Mine came out negative but ever since starting Remi, I have been having an annoying wet sounding cough myself. I have been to the doctor's quite a few times since starting on Remi, never had a chest xray, but I have had doctors listen to my lungs and they never said anything. My allergies did pick up quite a bit since starting and my post nasal drip is unreal, so perhaps mine is from that.

But if you are concerned, than you should make an appt with your doctor just to be on the safe side.

I did have the test, but thought users can still contract it easier even if they didn't,t have it. Having oral thrush issues too. My cough seems better today though

There is a cold going around with a really bad cough.  My kids just had it.  My older son has had his cough since Thanksgiving and it is horrible.  He coughs to the point of almost throwing up.  It is just now starting to go away.  If you are worried call and they will give you an x-ray.  Hope you feel better.

I second Judy's post. :)

I have a cough but it's due to LPR. Mine is constant and seems to be worse when I drink alcohol - even one glass. I am still trying to figure it out.

This is the time of year for all the nasty germs floating around. My kids have both just gotten over bad coughs. If it's that bad, get it checked...you may need an antibiotic.

I have not taken Remicade, but I took Humira and am now on Cimzia and info for both TNF blockers states the most common side effect is upper respiratory infections. Prednisone also decreases your immunity I believe, not quite clear from your sig if you are on that currently as well. I have had colds and sinus infections almost constantly for the last year during which time I was on Entocort, Humira, prednisone and now Cimzia. And nothing like kids to bring home the germs! Even my one year old can fight off a cold faster than I can!

I've had a cough for the last week too but my allergies are awful! I live in NC and the weather keeps flip flopping. Everyone is coughing.

Opps got ot there. I had a TB test before I started humira. I'm on remicade now.

Thanks, I think it is a thing going around. I decided to give it a few mor days as it seems to be getting better. Can't afford one more copayment either.
