UC is a living/breathing thing, it seems to be mutating all the time. There are times when even prednisone has no effect on it. As an autoimmune disease, UC effects your immune system and body in different ways at different times. Therefore, it's really no surprise that meds have different effects, lose their efficacy over time and sometimes don't work at all.
Having UC has been a real balancing act for me in the true sense of the phrase. Meds, diet, exercise, etc, they all blend together to keep it at bay, All we can do is our best with the info that we have and hope for good health.
Perhaps whatever effects our immune system that triggers the UC is what makes medicine ineffective.
When I was a toddler I was on a year and a half long stretch of antibiotics because of tonsillitis. Years of antibiotics and illness probably put me on the straight path to this disease. Perhaps it just depends on what triggered our illness to determine if our UC will be manageable or not, and how we prevent the disease from getting worse.
Just a thought.
