For me brandname Colazal provided my big break-through in 2003 for controlling left-sided UC. (Now U.S. producer Salix is taking it off the market, though, ugh!) If you have inflammation in the descending colon, the mesalamine enemas cannot reach there & do not control it. The steroid enemas can help after 3+ weeks of daily use when more of the med gets absorbed systemically. It sounds like you are steroid dependent, not good for your bones & other body organs over time. Did your gastro consider azathioprine (Imuran) at all? Many members posting here report good results taking it in combo with mesalamine meds. Best wishes for you to get definitive help with your problem. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
